At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our team with a focus on Design for Manufacture (DFM). This role is central to transitioning our aircraft from prototype development into scalable, cost‑effective, and conformity‑driven production. You will work across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality to ensure that our designs are optimized for manufacturability, repeatability, and certification readiness.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in maturing complex mechanical systems into production, leading cross‑functional teams, and driving disciplined engineering practices that balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Become intimately familiar with the aircraft’s mechanical systems, design intent, and manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improved manufacturability, cost reduction, and production scalability.
  • Lead Design for Manufacture (DFM) reviews for major assemblies and components, ensuring designs are optimized for production efficiency, process capability, and long‑term reliability.
  • Partner with design engineering to translate prototype‑era concepts into production‑ready solutions through tolerance analysis, material selection, process optimization, and part simplification.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and production teams to define robust build processes, inspection criteria, and quality controls that support conformity and certification requirements.
  • Drive cost‑effectiveness through value engineering, supplier engagement, and data‑driven trade studies that balance performance, manufacturability, and program targets.
  • Work closely with supply chain to evaluate vendor capabilities, support make‑versus‑buy decisions, and ensure manufacturability is embedded early in sourcing strategies.
  • Lead cross‑functional project teams through design maturation, build readiness, and production transition, ensuring alignment across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and certification.
  • Support the creation of production documentation, including specifications, work instructions, tooling requirements, and conformity packages.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help establish DFM best practices, design standards, and engineering governance across the organization.
  • Provide hands‑on support during prototype builds, pilot production, and early manufacturing runs to validate design intent and resolve issues rapidly.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or another engineering field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in aerospace, automotive, or other regulated, high‑precision manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading DFM efforts, maturing designs into production, and driving cross‑functional engineering projects.
  • Strong background in manufacturing processes such as machining, composites, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, and metrology tools for precision manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with conformity, quality systems, and certification processes (FAA or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to drive cost‑reduction initiatives and evaluate design/process trade‑offs using data‑driven methods.
  • Ability to work hard to meet ambitious goals and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to remain self‑motivated and persistent when navigating complex technical challenges.
