Ready to help shape the future of teaching and learning at a college undergoing bold curricular transformation? Champlain College is seeking a Faculty Support Specialist to serve as a hands-on partner for faculty development, educational technology integration, and the fulfillment of course standards. This newly created position will work directly with faculty to design learning experiences that leverage our Canvas LMS, integrate institutional assessment practices, and support Champlain's pedagogical approaches of inquiry-based, integrative, and experiential learning.
The Faculty Support Specialist provides consultation, training, and one-on-one coaching to both full-time and adjunct faculty, helping them build engaging, accessible, and standards-aligned courses. You'll collaborate with academic leadership, course designers, and technology staff to advance institutional priorities during a period of significant curricular change — including the launch of a more interdisciplinary academic model.
The ideal candidate combines instructional design expertise with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible, faculty-friendly guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Technology Integration & Canvas LMS Support
- Help faculty integrate educational technologies that enhance active learning, collaboration, student engagement, and equitable access to learning resources
- Provide consultation and training on aligning Canvas LMS features with course standards and institutional assessment needs
- Monitor emerging educational technologies and make recommendations for campus adoption; collaborate with the Canvas Administrator to identify and address faculty needs
Assessment Design & Curricular Alignment
- Partner with the Director of Curriculum and Assessment to integrate institutional assessment practices into classroom teaching
- Support faculty in developing authentic assessments that promote meaningful student feedback while providing institutional assessment data
- Participate in planning conversations about using assessment data to inform continuous improvement of courses and curricula
Faculty Development & Onboarding
- Provide onboarding support through new faculty orientation and ongoing development for full-time faculty and adjunct instructors
- Create resources, guides, and documentation to support faculty in instructional best practices
- Upon request of the Dean or Provost, offer one-on-one performance improvement coaching to faculty
Collaborative Partnership & Program Support
- Work collaboratively with faculty groups engaged in course and program innovations
- Participate in committees and working groups related to curriculum development, assessment, and educational technology
- Contribute to planning, assessment, and program review for academic program evolution and enhancement
Requirements
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Higher Education, or related field; or equivalent experience in instructional design and faculty support within an LMS environment
- Minimum 2 years of experience in instructional design, educational technology, or faculty development in higher education
- Demonstrated expertise with Canvas LMS
- Strong understanding of learning assessment principles, evidence-based teaching practices, and student-centered, experiential learning approaches
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty populations and translate complex technical concepts into accessible guidance
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary curriculum development is ideal
- Experience with educational technology tools integrated with Canvas (e.g., H5P, Panopto, VoiceThread, polling tools, digital portfolios) is a bonus
Working Arrangements
- Full-time, primarily on-campus position based at our main campus in Burlington, VT, with hybrid flexibility
- Standard business hours Monday through Friday
- Occasional evening or weekend commitments for faculty development events or institutional activities
Compensation & Benefits
Annual Salary: $59,000 - $63,000
