Champlain College is hiring part-time Access Services Coordinators to supervise library circulation services in the Miller Information Commons — a multi-use facility that houses the library, Student Success Center, computer lab, maker space, study rooms, and classrooms. In this role, you'll oversee facility operations, manage circulation systems, lead student employees, and carry out projects that keep the library running smoothly. This position is filled by 6–8 individuals concurrently, and flexibility with scheduling is required.
The ideal candidate brings strong customer service instincts, comfort with technology, and a genuine interest in mentoring student employees. You'll serve as a front-line resource for the Champlain community — answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the space is welcoming and well-managed.
Key Responsibilities
Circulation & Facility Management
- Provide library circulation services and serve as a point of contact for questions about the library, circulation policies, and the college
- Open and close the Miller Information Commons facility, oversee the space during shifts, and troubleshoot technology-related issues
- Enforce library policies for patrons and student workers
Student Employee Supervision
- Supervise, schedule, and train student workers in library procedures, policies, customer service, and library technologies
- Foster a library environment that is welcoming and accessible to all, and mentor student employees in an equity-centered approach to customer service
Project Coordination
- Manage ongoing library projects such as collection weeding, book shifting, inventory, shelf reading, and multimedia initiatives
- Coordinate project timelines and student project teams to ensure successful completion
- Maintain and edit library information in a dynamic wiki
Additional Library Services
- May coordinate and process course reserves with faculty to ensure timely availability
- May contribute to interlibrary loan services and assist with library programming and events as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 2–4 years of customer service and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a position of responsibility
- Strong computer skills and technology aptitude, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and troubleshoot software and hardware issues
- Experience with common applications such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with exceptional interpersonal and customer service abilities
- Aptitude and passion for mentoring young adults with a variety of needs and backgrounds
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and proactively address emerging needs in a fast-paced environment
Working Arrangements
- Part-time position (5–20 hours/week, 3 days/week, 12 months/year) based at our main campus in Burlington, Vermont
- Shifts are scheduled primarily during the following windows, with flexibility required:
- Sunday–Thursday evenings, 5:00–10:00 PM
- Friday evenings, 5:00–8:00 PM
- Saturdays, 11:00–4:00 PM
- Sunday afternoons, 12:00–5:00 PM
- Extended hours may apply during peak periods; occasional weekday morning shifts are also possible
- Work is performed in a library environment; requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
- May involve working in occasionally dusty environments
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate: $17.83
- Retirement: Eligible to contribute to the 403(b) plan
