Job Summary:
As we continue to scale one of the fastest growing apparel brands, we are seeking a strategic, hands-on Lead Copywriter to set messaging direction and define how the brand communicates and tells its story across campaigns and consumer touchpoints. This role owns messaging strategy, concept development, and copy standards; ensuring brand voice and tone are clear, cohesive, and impactful across all initiatives. The role provides daily guidance, feedback and instruction to lower level copywriters to ensure brand voice is consistent and effective.
Working in close partnership with the Director of Content + Creative, Manager of Corporate Communications, and creative, marketing, and cross-functional teams, the Lead Copywriter shapes and evolves the brand’s voice, narrative, and messaging frameworks to support brand and business objectives.
The Lead Copywriter leads copy from concept through execution, setting the standard for quality, consistency, and effectiveness. This role mentor’s copywriters, manages workflows, and elevates the overall strength, cohesion, and strategic impact of brand messaging.
the starting salary for this role is $90,000-$105,000 based on experience
Key Responsibilities:
Messaging Strategy & Creative Development
- Lead messaging concept development and strategy for brand and product campaigns across all channels.
- Establish, shape, evolve, and uphold brand voice, tone, messaging standards, and copy systems to ensure consistency and clarity.
- Translate business and marketing objectives into compelling messaging frameworks and creative concepts.
- Lead copy development from initial concept through execution, ensuring alignment with approved creative direction.
- Clearly articulate messaging rationale, decisions, and strategic intent to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to naming, storytelling, product messaging, campaign narratives, and brand defining initiatives.
- Ensure messaging maintains cohesion and impact across all channels.
Team Mentorship
- Provide direction, mentorship, and feedback to copywriters, fostering growth in craft, creative thinking, and strategic messaging.
- Delegate work effectively across internal and freelance resources, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficiency.
- Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented environment that encourages creative excellence and accountability.
- Proactively manage feedback, resolve challenges, and maintain smooth messaging workflows across projects.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner closely with the Director of Content + Creative, Design Lead, Manager of Corporate Communications, Marketing, and Project Management to deliver cohesive, on-brand copy.
- Collaborate with designers, content creators, and external partners to ensure alignment between messaging and visual execution.
- Present messaging concepts clearly and confidently, incorporating feedback while maintaining messaging integrity.
- Support leadership, including Founder and strategic initiatives, with thoughtful, brand aligned messaging.
- Partner with Project Management to ensure copy deliverables are completed on time, on brief, and on brand.
Brand Stewardship & Quality
- Own messaging decisions and executional standards, ensuring all copy aligns with established brand voice and messaging frameworks.
- Maintain consistency and cohesion across creative outputs, identifying and resolving messaging inconsistencies.
- Continuously refine and elevate messaging standards, processes, and copy output quality.
- Contribute to the evolution of brand narrative and messaging systems as the brand grows and expands.
Qualifications:
- 7–10+ years of professional copywriting experience, with a strong portfolio of brand and campaign work.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- Proven experience leading messaging strategy and concept development for large-scale, multi-channel campaigns.
- Mastery of short and long form copy, including campaign messaging, storytelling, product copy, naming, and brand narratives.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing copywriters and freelancers.
- Strong ability to translate strategy into clear, compelling messaging frameworks and executions.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with designers, marketers, leadership, and external partners.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to articulate messaging strategy and creative rationale.
- Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and modern creative workflows.
- Highly organized, collaborative, proactive, and solutions oriented.
