Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Lead with Purpose and Agility: Inspire a high-performing team by setting ambitious goals, adapting to change, and removing obstacles to drive critical business outcomes.

- Drive Strategic Alignment and Results: Align people and processes to organizational goals through effective planning, performance management, and talent pipeline development.
- Establish a culture of accountability and innovation — foster an environment of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement that encourages experimentation and learning.
- Drive AI-enabled development — promote the use of tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Amazon Q to enhance code quality, developer efficiency, and design agility.
- Guide modernization efforts — lead the evolution from legacy InterSystems ObjectScript and monolithic systems to microservices, API-first, and cloud-native architectures.
- Apply data-driven management — implement and track engineering KPIs, OKRs, and performance dashboards to measure velocity, quality, and predictability; use insights to proactively improve team output and morale.
- Collaborate with senior leadership — partner with the Product, QA, and Regulatory leaders to align technical direction, delivery expectations, and capacity planning with business goals.
- Promote operational excellence — ensure strong adherence to design controls, quality management systems, and documentation standards required in the medical software domain.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with Product, Quality, and Compliance for fast, clear decisions and communication.
- Recruit and retain top talent — hire, onboard, and nurture engineers who are passionate about innovation, healthcare, and building products that make a difference.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skilled at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable business insights that drive alignment and impactProven track record of building high-performing teams and developing top talent
- Experience working in regulated environments with FDA, ISO 13485, HIPAA, or SOC2 compliance.
- Demonstrated success using engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, velocity, defect density, deployment frequency, code review quality) to drive transparency, influence behavior change, and enable continuous, incremental improvement.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a focus on guiding teams to prioritize effectively and deliver results.
Education and/or Experience - Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree. Preferably in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of telephone communication, keyboarding, and computer.
Preferred skills and experience:
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal employee/candidate will have experience with the following:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably in healthcare, diagnostics, or regulated industries.
- 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams, including developers, QA engineers, and DevOps.
- Strong, hands-on proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, C#, TypeScript) and experience with AI/ML frameworks or APIs (OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, TensorFlow, etc.).
- Experience with Agile/Scrum, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Deep knowledge of InterSystems technologies — especially ObjectScript, Ensemble, IRIS, and integration with modern cloud or API ecosystems.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, ASTM, LIS/HIS.
Supervision Level
This person reports directly to the Director of Software Engineering.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $137,900 – $182,165 (Compensation will vary based on skills and experience)
- Bonus Eligibility: Full-time, non-sales employees are eligible for DI’s annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
