Director of Procurement

Position Summary

The Director of Procurement provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s end-to-end procurement, purchasing, and material planning functions. This role is accountable for ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and risk-mitigated acquisition of raw materials, components, and services critical to business operations.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director drives enterprise-wide procurement strategy, strengthens supplier partnerships, and ensures operational continuity through disciplined execution and forward-looking planning. This role plays a pivotal part in aligning procurement activities with organizational objectives, enabling growth, profitability, and customer success.

Key Responsibilities

Executive & Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with corporate objectives, production requirements, and market dynamics
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on cost drivers, market conditions, and risk mitigation
  • Lead long-term planning initiatives to ensure material availability, cost competitiveness, and operational resilience
  • Identify and implement enterprise-level cost optimization and efficiency initiatives

Supplier Strategy & Commercial Leadership

  • Establish and lead a high-performing supplier network to meet quality, delivery, cost, and compliance expectations
  • Own executive-level supplier relationships and strategic partnerships
  • Lead complex negotiations, contracts, and commercial agreements to deliver optimal business outcomes
  • Implement and oversee supplier performance frameworks, including KPIs, scorecards, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive resolution of critical supplier issues and ensure accountability

Operational Excellence

  • Provide oversight of purchasing, material planning, and inventory strategies to support production and customer commitments
  • Ensure seamless coordination of procurement activities, including outsourcing services and external processing
  • Optimize inventory and material flow to balance service levels, cost, and working capital
  • Lead process standardization, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Establish and enforce procurement policies, governance, and best practices

Financial & Performance Management

  • Own procurement-related budgets and financial performance
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and supply reliability
  • Monitor, spend, analyze variances, and deliver measurable savings and value creation
  • Report on procurement performance to executive leadership

Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to supplier performance, market volatility, and material availability
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
  • Champion ethical sourcing practices and sustainability initiatives

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Sales, and Program Management to align procurement with business priorities
  • Support new product introduction and scaling efforts through early supplier engagement
  • Influence enterprise decision-making as a key operational leader

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing procurement and planning organization
  • Establish clear goals, accountability, and performance expectations
  • Develop organizational capability in negotiation, sourcing strategy, and supplier management
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Operations, or related field (Masters preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, or related functions
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in regulated industries (aerospace & defense strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and cost management
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and performance metrics
  • Deep understanding of material planning, risk mitigation, and operational requirements

Salary Description
