Position Summary
National Life Group is seeking a strategic Director of Competitive Intelligence to lead insights and analysis supporting our Life and Annuity business. This role transforms market and competitor data into actionable insights that inform product strategy, positioning, and enterprise decision-making. The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders—paired with exceptional storytelling skills to shape and communicate a compelling, differentiated narrative for National Life Group.
This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Insights
- Lead the competitive intelligence function within the Office of the CMO, identifying market trends, opportunities, and threats.
- Deliver high-impact analysis including competitive benchmarking, product comparisons, and industry trend insights.
- Define and articulate clear product differentiators to strengthen market positioning.
- Translate complex competitive dynamics into compelling narratives and sales-enabling talking points that position NLG products effectively against competitors.
- Synthesize disparate data into actionable insights and clear implications for the business and product strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a central partner for competitive intelligence across marketing, product, and distribution teams.
- Provide executive-ready insights and recommendations that inform strategic decisions.
- Develop clear, persuasive messaging and storytelling that helps internal stakeholders and the field effectively communicate NLG’s value proposition.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment to translate insights into action and market impact.
Market Intelligence
- Proactively monitor competitor activity, product innovations, and broader industry trends.
- Analyze external sources such as earnings calls, annual reports, investor presentations, and public filings to assess competitor strategies and market direction.
- Identify and communicate implications of competitive actions for NLG’s products, positioning, and go-to-market strategy.
- Ensure insights are communicated in a way that is actionable, digestible, and aligned to business priorities.
- Continuously seek out new information sources and proactively disseminate insights with thoughtful analysis across the organization.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of analysts.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, proactive intelligence gathering, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to product and marketing strategy, including positioning, messaging, and pricing.
Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of experience in competitive intelligence, market research, strategy, or product marketing (insurance or financial services preferred).
- Strong knowledge of life insurance and annuity products and competitive landscape.
- Demonstrated strength in strategic storytelling and developing compelling, sales-oriented narratives.
- Proven ability to translate complex data and external intelligence into actionable insights for senior leaders.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading teams and working cross-functionally.

Base Pay Range. The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.
Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
