The primary function of the ITS AVIS Summer Job is to provide basic technical support for classrooms, events (live in person and Zoom virtual), as well as the following functions:

  • Use of technology installed in classrooms, event locations, and video conferencing spaces, and set up portable equipment as necessary.
  • Arrive on time for events and maintain an accurate and up-to-date schedule of work.
  • Use the ITS ticketing system to create, track event information, and communicate with clients.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Arrive early at events and communicate effectively with event organizers about the technology they’ll be using for their event.
  • Work as a part of a team of students and staff to collaboratively share best practices and work to improve audio-video systems and support.
  • Basic troubleshooting of audio/video-related issues.
  • Maintain the security of media services materials, including media, equipment, and the office.
  • May be required to work evening hours
  • May be required to work weekends
  • May be required to work a set weekly schedule
  • Expectation of self-directed time and appropriate decision-making skills.
  • Expectation of one-time training, with refresher training sessions as needed or requested.
  • Expectation of modeling appropriate behavior and policies to other students at all times.

Experience:

  • No prior experience or training required.
  • All necessary training will be provided upon hiring.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with College smart classrooms is preferred.
  • Library and information services experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with common media formats and A/V technology (HDMI, USB-C, MP4 etc) preferred.
  • Maturity and competence in working without direct supervision, as needed

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Basic computer hardware and software skills.
  • Basic understanding of A/V systems.

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
