Dining Hall Summer Support Staff is a customer service-based employee that is responsible for supporting each area or location as assigned. This could include checker duties, servery food stations, light prep, working in dish-room/pot sink areas, and general upkeep of the dining rooms and work areas.

Essential Functions:

  • Cheerfully greets the customers.
  • Maintains sufficient work pace to ensure proper customer flow
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of technology used.
  • Cleans work area and dining room after shift (including sweeping and mopping and wiping tables) and maintains an orderly area.
  • Comply with the Dining Services standards, dress code, VT State Health codes, and VT DLC laws.
  • Adheres to appropriate standards of behavior in the workplace
  • Though hired into a specific working title or location, all employees of Food Operations are expected to support overall operations by: participating in cross-training, providing coverage during staff absences or special events, and being willing and able to perform additional, related duties and/or be reassigned to another work unit.
  • The current hours for summer coverage needed are 7am-12:30, 4pm-9:30 pm. Nights and weekends are required.
  • We will do our best to offer a set schedule and the expectation is that you will find coverage for shifts you cannot work.
  • · Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
  • · Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and push or pull up to 100 lbs. Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs. frequently. Able to walk and climb stairs frequently. Must be able to carry supplies and equipment up and downstairs. Must be able to bend, squat and kneel frequently. Able to perform frequent overhead reaching movements. Must be able for stand for long periods of time.

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
