The Admissions office seeks a dynamic, creative, flexible admissions communications intern. The intern will help develop a consistent image and voice for the Admissions office as well as a relevant and engaging online presence. Responsibilities occur independently in a flexible manner with supervision and guidance from Admissions staff. Time commitment may vary based on needs and time of year; 5-8 hours per week on average.

This position is compensated at the Level C rate on the Midd student wage scale: $14.86 - $15.31 per hour.

  • Work with the communications team within the Admissions office to strategize, coordinate, and execute communications.
  • Share weekly photography with the Admissions team. Expectation is to deliver 15 quality photos per week with the goal of creating a portfolio highlighting the student experience on campus. Flexibility based on the season and weather.
  • Produce digital content (photos, video, text) that enhances affinity for and knowledge of Middlebury, shares community success, and highlights the student experience.
  • Manage the Instagram account for admitted students from December through May, including (but not limited to):
    • Create posts introducing members of the admitted class to account followers (other admitted students)
    • Produce content that generates discussion and community-building amongst admitted students
    • Moderate student activity and engagement with the account, including regularly checking direct messages and monitoring comments under posts

  • Attend campus and community events to be featured in admissions communications content (occasionally occurring outside of standard office hours).
  • Assist with additional duties as they arise.
  • Work experience with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, etc).
  • Photography experience and a willingness to build a portfolio.
  • Must own a quality digital camera to use for the duration of this internship.
  • Experience working in a professional environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in video/film production, video editing, photography, photo editing, and basic graphic design is preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with high level of discretion required

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
