The Q-Center Office Assistant is responsible for warmly welcoming all visitors to the Q-Center, helping them find the resources they seek, and actively monitoring the needs of the space. In addition to these welcoming and monitoring responsibilities, the Office Assistants will also assist Q-Center staff with project work and event support.

This position is compensated at the Level A rate on the Midd student wage scale: $14.01 - $14.43 per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

  • ​Welcome all visitors entering the Center; interact with students, faculty, and staff to foster an inclusive, friendly environment, and to orient patrons to available Q-Center services.
  • ​Pay close attention to physical conditions and needs within the Center space.
  • ​Take responsibility for daily open/close routines of Q-Center, where applicable, and other space-related needs such as tidying, moving furniture, posting signs, trash removal, etc.
  • ​Assist with preparation of materials, including updating documents in Word and Excel, photocopying, etc.
  • ​Assist with logistics for workshops, tutoring sessions, and other events in the Center.
  • ​Assist with data collection, analysis and reporting, and any other project work assigned by supervisor.
  • ​Assist with promotional processes for upcoming events.
  • ​Assist patrons with loanable materials that can circulate within the Center.
  • ​​​Must bring a positive, friendly, outgoing demeanor to interactions with others
  • ​Must be able to work with sensitive material
  • ​Must be able to work independently and with direction from Center staff
  • ​Exceptional observational and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • ​Excellent computer skills

​Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • ​Must be willing to work some evening and weekend hours.​​

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
