Serves as customer service front line – answering phone calls, greeting visitors - and performs general office tasks for the Student Financial Services (SFS) department. This is a 40 hour/week position for the Summer Term (May 25 - Sept 13)

This is a Middlebury student Level B position paying $14.95 per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

  • ​​Learn Student Financial Services (SFS) policies and procedures in order to be confident, articulate and professional on the phone and in person.
  • ​Answer calls regarding the aid application process and billing, and discern to whom calls should be directed, if needed.
  • ​Undergo a two-week initial training process, with ongoing training through all cycles of the academic year.
  • ​Sign a confidentiality agreement and maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations at all times.
  • ​Responsible for processing mail, identifying type and purpose of information, and entering documents into the SFS document coding system.
  • ​Assists with filing for all student populations. Responsible for creating file folders for new aid applicants of all populations.
  • ​Responsible for setting up appointments for office staff, using Microsoft Office calendar, and notifying staff of each new appointment.
  • ​Works on special projects for all SFS office staff as required.​

Position Prerequisites:

  • ​​​Must demonstrate a strong commitment and a high level of reliability.
  • ​Must work well and calmly in times when working on time sensitive projects, as well as with interactions with callers and visitors.
  • ​Must be well organized, detail oriented, and articulate.
  • ​Must be able to work well independently. ​​

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
