The Anderson Freeman Center (AFC), located in Carr Hall, provides resources, support, and programming for students of color; first-generation college students; and queer and/or transgender students.
AFC Office Assistants support the day-to-day operations of the center, acting as hosts of the Center, managing the space, and serving as peer resource advisors. AFC Office Assistants will also complete administrative tasks and errands as assigned by directors.
This is a Middlebury student Level A position paying $14.50 per hour.
Core Responsibilities:
• Provide front desk support and reception coverage for the Center, including greeting and assisting visitors.
• Complete space management tasks such as having students sign in, answering questions, ensuring students clean up after themselves, etc.
• Perform frequent check-in rounds throughout the building.
• Maintain a tidy and professional Center, resource library, kitchen, lounge, and conference room.
- Complete general clean-up tasks such as running the dishwasher, closing windows, and putting furniture back in its place.
- Stock office supplies and other resources as needed.
• Receive incoming calls; answer questions; take messages and transfer calls to appropriate parties.
• Distribute mail accordingly.
• Complete office tasks as necessary: running errands, updating website and social media, hanging posters, printing and copying materials, etc.
• Maintain AFC Google and Event wall calendars
• Manage technology (printers, phone, setting up equipment, etc.)
• Assist with data entry and various projects during time at front desk on an as-needed basis
• Attend regular meetings with AFC Staff.
• Work collaboratively with other student employees and Center Staff.
• Assist with events as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Desired:
• Knowledge of Middlebury College resources.
• Basic computer skills, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Basic office skills – photocopying and filing.
• Knowledge of other computer programs including, but not limited to 25Live, InDesign, and Photoshop, is helpful.

Student Employment Eligibility:
Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.
Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.
Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.
Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.
Hour Limitations:
All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
