Core Responsibilities: Provide excellent customer service, assist borrowers to access all library services, ensure accurate and efficient circulation of library resources.

This is a Middlebury student Level B position paying $14.95 per hour

Position Time Periods for Summer 2026. Applicants can apply for one or all but must be able to work full time (40 hrs) through the full period specified.

  • May 20th - June 20th: Pre Language School
  • June 21st – August 14th: Language School
  • August 17th – September 13th: Post Language School

Position Prerequisites:

  • Ability to speak more than one language is not required but appreciated
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions. Able to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, faculty and the rest of the College staff. May be required to work independently. One weekend day/night is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Front line support at all Circulation service points
  • Provide support to Reserves, Interlibrary loan, and Librarians, Special Collections and Bread Loaf School of English
  • Respect and adhere to policy and law regarding patron confidentiality of borrower records
  • Maintain accurate patron records
  • Basic functional knowledge of Alma Circulation software
  • Assist with Library projects to support the building and its collections

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and load, unload and maneuver book trucks
  • Frequently stand, sit, squat, bend and climb up and down ladders and step stools
  • Occasionally lift objects above shoulders or over the head

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
