Design in Fall 2026 an asynchronous online course for secondary world language teachers on Technology for Planning and Delivering Secondary Language Education

Pay:

The total compensation for delivering this course is $5000.

Core Responsibilities:

    • ​Designs a 7-module online asynchronous course called Language Teaching with Technology and AI designed to be delivered over a 7-week period in Spring 2027. All content should be contextualized for a range of teaching contexts, from dual language K-8 schools through higher education contexts as well as self-employed or entrepreneurial teaching contexts.
    • ​The course should be applicable to students in Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Arabic for this first iteration, but should be something that alumni from Middlebury MA programs in other languages could also benefit from
    • ​AI applications should focus on ones that Middlebury students have institutional access to – Gemini and CoPilot.
    • ​If a subscription to other services or technologies is needed for the courses (corpora, other AI tools) contact Associate Dean of Curriculum for funding options for student access to these technologies
    • ​Course should strike a balance of frameworks for thinking about any new technology, and training on tools or platforms that can be immediately applied. ​
    • ​​Have a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics, Education, Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field
    • ​Preferably have experience teaching secondary-age students and teaching courses in teacher education programs
    • ​​Have experience successfully designing and delivering online asynchronous courses
    • ​Knowledge of Canvas as a learning management platform, and technical tools to facilitate engagement in an online synchronous course
    • ​Knowledge of and/or readiness and ability to acquire knowledge of Vermont’s practices and policies related to accommodating learners with different and specialized learning needs

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

    • ​Must be able to work at a computer, either standing or sitting, and access the content of written documents, audio files, and videos. ​​
